The next meeting of the Quality and Safeguarding Professional Network is now open for booking.
This session will focus on Denial of Liberty and the Mental Capacity Act, with particular attention to situations where assessments are carried out by someone who does not know the person supported and staff disagree with the outcome.
We’ll begin with insights from VODG’s legal partner, who will outline providers’ responsibilities, how to mitigate risk, and what should be included in robust quality assurance. We’ll also explore how the principle of listening to those who know the person best applies when an assessment has been carried out by a stranger.
Next, we’ll move into a practical session led by a guest speaker who will share examples of good practice, lessons learned, and approaches that support staff and the people they support. We’ve also built in time for member reflections and discussion, giving space to explore the issues raised and share experiences across the network.
To close the meeting, we’ll hear from Mark Wignall of Walsingham Support, well known to many members for his health and safety updates. Mark will speak on Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans (PEEPs) and fire safety — what they are, why they matter, and what best practice looks like in a social care context.
These are timely and important conversations for anyone leading on quality and safeguarding. Book your place today.
