VODG Special Interest Group | Children and Young People Provider’s Meeting

Bringing members together to discuss policy updates, key announcements and share intelligence.

This meeting of the SIG will focus on shared positioning and a joint response to the Schools White Paper and SEND Consultation, Putting Children and Young People First.

VODG's Children and Young People's Special Interest Group brings member organisations together that deliver support for disabled children and young people, young adults who have transitioned from children’s services or have a general interest in the support disabled children and young people access.

This SIG meeting will focus on the government’s Schools White Paper and SEND reforms, specifically the open consultation, closing on 18 May 2026. Following previous discussions, members have shared their commitment to developing shared positions and messages we can usefully amplify. We are keen to develop these in regard to the latest government policy announcements, and to inform a joint consultation response.

Aim of the Group

  1. Understand the structural barriers: Identify the systemic challenges that prevent smooth transitions from children's services to adult services.
  2. Explore the impact: Discuss how these systemic divides and fragmentation affect
    • Children, young people and families.
    • Commissioners and providers
    • The economy and policy making
  3. Collaborative solutions: Explore strategies and best practices for improving collaboration and the role of third sector providers.
  4. Policy recommendations: Discuss how policy reforms can address these issues and improve continuity of support across age groups.
