VODG members are invited to meet with representatives from the Low Pay Commission (LPC) to find out more about their current call for evidence.
The LPC is seeking views to inform recommendations to government in October, on minimum wage rates for 2026 and beyond.
The Commission is looking at nine areas including the impact of the National Living Wage (NLW), experience of different groups, compliance and economic outlook.
VODG members are invited to this spotlight meeting, to share their thoughts, examples and suggestions with Commissioners directly.
At our session the LPC would welcome your thoughts on:
The economy and labour market in your area
The outlook for pay and employment in your business
The experience of disabled people in the labour market, and the role of the minimum wage in this.
How employers are affected by the rising minimum wage
Your views on the future of the minimum wage
We are delighted to be joined by LPC Commissioners Dr Patricia Rice, Janet Williamson and Louise Fisher.
If you are unable to attend, written submissions are also invited by the end of June, further details and the full list of questions can be found here.
Background
The Low Pay Commission, or LPC, is the independent body that advises the Government on the National Minimum Wage. Commissioners are drawn from different backgrounds, representing the interests of workers, employers and independent experts.
The LPC makes recommendations to the Government on the level of the minimum wage and on related policy issues which affect workers and employers. To do this, they draw on the latest data on the labour market and economy, and first-hand testimony from those directly affected by the minimum wage.
They work through the year to gather evidence. Commissioners negotiate and agree recommendations in the autumn and publish an annual report setting out advice alongside the evidence and analysis relied on.
All the evidence shared and data used are summarised in the LPC annual report.
Anything you share will be treated in confidence. All evidence will be anonymised as appropriate, and nothing attributed to you without your permission.
Please note, should you have any accessibility requirements, we will do our best to make necessary arrangements to support you; however, we may require up to four weeks notice, so please list your requirements on the booking form. Closed captions are used as standard in online meetings. If you have any questions, please email [email protected].
