Workshop to Help Improve the Harmonised Standards for Disabled People

ONS workshop to understand how users interpret the current harmonised standards, and to determine whether changes could be made to improve data quality and better represent disabled people.

09 Jun 2023
Background
The Government Statistical Service Harmonisation Team are working to improve the comparability, consistency, and coherence of statistics across government and beyond through the delivery of  the harmonisation workplan. Within this workplan, the Health and Disability team have recently published reviews of the disability and mental health standards. In these reviews they worked with a range of stakeholders to understand the strengths and weaknesses of the current standards. Their next stage of research is to engage with users to address some of these weaknesses.

How you can help
We are inviting you to a workshop to help improve the harmonised standards for disabled people and for users of disability statistics.

Aim
The aim of the workshop is to understand how users interpret the current harmonised standards, and to determine whether they could be phrased differently to improve data quality and better represent disabled people.

When
The workshops will be hosted on Microsoft Teams and are running at the end of June and the first week of July. Sessions will run for around one and a half hours, with a break in the middle.

How do I sign up?
If you would like to attend a workshop, you can use our sign-up form. You will be able to select from a variety of workshop dates which you can rank in order of preference. We will try to match attendees with their first preferred date, but allocation of spaces may be affected by the number of attendees who have signed up.

If you would prefer a one-to-one session, or if you have any colleagues who would be interested in coming along, please let us know.

Best wishes,
