Royal Ballet & Opera Access Scheme

Details of how the Royal Ballet and Opera is making its performances accessible, including BSL interpreted and relaxed performances, and how to join the accessibility scheme.

Here at the Royal Ballet & Opera, we have a continuing focus on how we can get more people involved with Ballet and Opera. Whether that be attending a performance, taking a tour or streaming our content online, we understand the importance that the arts can have on our lives, and we know we have a responsibility to bring that to everyone we can. A part of that initiative is how we can make Ballet and Opera for everybody. That’s where our RBO Access Scheme comes in.

What is it?

Audiences can join our Access Scheme to customise their account with their own access requirements. Members of the scheme can also get priority booking for accessible performances and events. Audiences can tailor the booking process to include:

  • Accessible event information
  • Companion tickets
  • Audio Season Guides
  • Assistive hearing devices
  • Accessible seating
  • Access discounts and more

The Access Scheme is designed to make performances and events more inclusive for disabled visitors, people with long term health conditions and their companions. The scheme allows eligible individuals to access tickets with reasonable adjustments, including discounted prices or additional accommodations, where applicable. You can find further information about the Access Scheme on our website here

Who is it for?

Our Access Scheme is for anyone who identifies as disabled, neurodivergent or living with long-term health conditions that mean they require additional access provisions. These can include step-free and wheelchair seats, resources such as Visual Stories or Audio Descriptions, or tickets for accessible performances and events, such as British Sign Language interpreted, Captioned or Touch Tours. Customers can tailor their account to their requirements when joining the Access Scheme.

What type of access events do we offer?

Relaxed Performances – A performance where the auditorium environment is adapted (no changes to the production itself are made). The auditorium lights will remain on and if you need to, you can make noise, move around, or take a break.  A Visual Story and building guide are available to help you find your way around and quiet areas available for you to relax in.

Assistive Listening, British Sign Language and Captioned performances

Audio described introductions, Audio Descriptions and Touch Tours

To learn more about all of our Accessible offerings, you can contact [email protected] for further information about the accessible performances and equipment available, or you can check out our website for more information.

Want to get involved?

This is where we need your help. We want to grow our Access scheme by increasing the visibility of our offerings. Could you please let us know how we can work with you to further support your members or if there is a more suitable contact for our scheme?

Please visit our website to check out our upcoming accessible performances.

Thanks,
