UKHSA has been investigating an outbreak of Burkholderia stablis.
Our testing has identified contamination in a number of different 'non-sterile, alcohol free' wound care wipe products that can be purchased by consumers.
Some people are more at risk of serious illness following exposure to Burkholderia than others - including those who have lines or ports to deliver medicines, and those with cystic fibrosis.
We are alerting healthcare professionals so they can remind patients of the best way to use wipes. You can find the patient safety alert here. Where possible, we are encouraging colleagues to share through any channels and networks as soon as possible.
Please get in touch with us if you have any questions.
