Lack of suitable housing and support are key reasons for delayed discharge of people with a learning disability and autistic people from mental health hospitals, as well as being needed to prevent inappropriate admissions in the first place.
This national conference will showcase innovative work happening to ensure people with a learning disability and autistic people get the right housing and support they need to live fulfilling lives in the community.
Ministers from the Department of Health and Housing and Communities will be joining delegates to set out their plans to ensure there is adequate housing and support as the government implements significant changes, further to the passing into law of the Mental Health Act (2025).
Alongside a full programme of plenary and workshop sessions on housing and support there will be a powerful exhibition- Homes not Hospitals: The Fight for Freedom – which has been co-produced with families with lived experience, to remind everyone why it is essential to get housing and support right.
