DHSC Funding and Data Mapping

Multi-million pound funding to help local authorities support the vulnerable and improve understanding of people’s care journey.

DHSC announced over £60 million of funding to be shared across local authorities to support the improvement of care for people and better join up health and care services for people by collecting individual level data, to improve local, regional and national understanding of an individual’s journey within the care system.

Alongside DHSC have also published ‘Care data matters: a roadmap for better data for adult social care’, to set out a roadmap for improving how we collect, share, and analyse adult social care data in England. As part of this, DHSC are seeking views on the data needed to commission, deliver, and oversee care and support. Responses should be submitted by 31 July 2023 via this Feedback Form.

Key highlights:

  • A package of £57.36 million will support local authorities with three continued grants to improve care for people who need it.
  • Local authorities will also receive a portion of a £3 million fund to support the introduction of a new data collection.
  • The money will support local authorities to provide quality care and will give new insights into an individual’s journey through the health and care system.

Social care grants:

On CLD funding grants:

  • The government is transforming adult social care data, so that we can deliver better joined up care for people who draw on care and support and have a greater understanding of people's care journeys. This will mean there is more time for people who provide and commission care and support and ensure better management and oversight of the health and care system.
  • The client level data (CLD) collection will be added to the Single Data List, and CLD will be mandatory for all local authorities from April 2023, with the first quarterly return in July 2023.
  • This new data collection will provide more frequent, more detailed data about adult social care than what is currently available. By enabling the link to health data, it will allow for in-depth analysis of individuals’ health and care pathways, support joint planning and commissioning locally, and provide better sector oversight and insight.
