The aim of the group is to provide a safe space for members impacted by HMRC’s position on VAT grouping structures to come together. Under Chatham House rules, members can share intelligence and their experience of navigating conversations, whether with commissioning bodies, HMRC or Trustees.
At this meeting we will hear from at least one member organisation about their initial discussions with HMRC, having been contacted as part of their outreach on grouping structures.
Thank you to colleagues who recently joined the 20 May member meeting on VAT and care groups.
There was a helpful round of information and intelligence sharing. We noted the position of local authorities who have communicated to providers and HMRC, with one member raising questions ahead of an audit visit.
Members to be invited to contribute to an online and anonymous tracker documenting local authority responses.
Members to consider sharing tax advice to support triangulation of perspectives.
Members to consider a coordinated approach to ‘knee-jerk’ local authorities.
VODG to create an internal Special Interest Group (SIG) on VAT and care groups and to diarise regular checkpoints. The next meeting will be timed to allow feedback from the HMRC visit to be shared (this has been actioned and a booking link is below).
VODG to continue to explore influencing activities, most likely in partnership with other sector bodies.
Members invited to share further insights, ideas and/or collaboration suggestions via [email protected].
We will follow up with these actions, including the tracker, shortly.
