Disability Direct

Disability Direct was created in 1993 by a group of disabled people who saw a need for good reliable information.

The charity started off small with just a few volunteers but soon grew to become the largest user-led charity in the East Midlands.

Our Welfare Rights service was created soon after forming the charity and this is the only project that has continued throughout our 29 years.

SUPPORTING PEOPLE THROUGH THE TOUGHEST OF TIMES
We now run many projects and services that support both people locally and nationally and all of them aim to help people become or maintain independence.

Disability Direct now has 47 members of staff and 28 volunteers between the charity and its Social Enterprises, which include the Enabled Centre, DD Payroll, Blue Sky Brokers and Nimbus Disability Consultancy.

OUR ETHOS
Over the years we have supported more than 140,000 people through many projects and services and will always adapt to the needs of disabled people, their families, carers and professionals.

Even though DD has had to change over the years, our ethos has stayed the same throughout this time and we continue to give a personalised individual service to anyone who needs support.

All profits from the social enterprises are donated to the charity which has allowed us to continue to support people even through the toughest times.
