Coronavirus (COVID-19) Special Brief – 29 May 2020

Friday 29 May

VODG continues to raise concerns around the government’s coronavirus (COVID-19) testing programme based on member feedback on the issues and challenges some are facing. As part of its COVID-19 Recovery Strategy, the government aspires to offer a COVID-19 test first to every staff member and ‘resident’ in care homes for older people with dementia and then to roll this out to wider groups later in June. We are concerned about issues of parity and the fact that aspirations often take longer to come to fruition than planned. And most recently the launch of the NHS Test and Trace programme has added additional layers to those concerns, particularly around what the impact the programme will have on providers’ workforce and HR arrangements, as well as issues around the accessibility of the programme for disabled people. We have been raising our concerns within the Department and want to shine a light on the impact of testing as you see it.  We are inviting you to take part in a very short snap survey about COVID-19 testing to help inform our collective influencing work. We have structured the survey questions in such a way that we do not require you to provide numbers and figures – we seek only your views. The survey takes no longer that two minutes to complete. Given the immediacy of this work, we would be grateful if you could complete the survey by midday on Tuesday 2 June.
You can complete the survey here.
