DLA: the fight for welfare goes on

The Welfare Reform Bill is due to return to the Commons for voting this week; DLA campaigners say it's not too late to win more concessions.

Adrian Bagg, chief executive of VODG member Papworth Trust, explains how his organisation led a group of 16 major charities urging the government to pause the bill. A major worry, he argues, is that details of how the reform will affect disabled people has not been fully investigated. Bagg writes: "While the House of Lords [which has just scrutinised the bill] has agreed some welcome changes, the Commons is likely to reverse these moves. It is therefore vital that we all put the pressure on the government to put the interests of disabled people first as the Welfare Reform Bill goes through Parliament."
